Cordless vacuum cleaners are among the most useful cleaning tools for your housekeeping needs. Since it’s cordless, without any cords to plug into a power outlet, you’re free to move around the home while bringing this appliance along.
Considering the many brands and models available, what are the best cordless vacuum cleaners in the market today? Here are five of the top models including their strengths and weaknesses to help you find the one vacuum cleaner perfect for your home.

1. Dyson V10 – Best Overall Cordless Vacuum
The Dyson V10 offers powerful suction compared to other cordless vacuums. Since the release of its big brother, the Dyson V11, the V10 has dropped in price, making it an alluring option if you want power in a cleaner but have a limited budget to spend.
The V10 builds from its little brother, the V8, by redesigning a majority of the components to raise the suction power and air intake. It comes with 150 W of suction power, making it a good vacuum for large homes.
It has a long battery life that can run up to an hour (60 minutes) when fully charged, and it has a big dirt bin that is at least 50% bigger than its predecessor. These features, along with eight attachments for cleaning inside the home and in your car, make the V10 our top recommended cordless vacuum.
This vacuum can pick up everything on the floor, and even more than that. It’s powerful enough to clean dirt deeply embedded in high pile carpet. Despite the strengths, the V10 does have some weaknesses. First, the price isn’t the most affordable, you do pay for quality and power. Second, the batteries aren’t replaceable though they can be detached.
2. Hoover Linx Cordless Stick
The Hoover Linx has many admirable features, including a friendly price. It performs efficiently and well enough for cleaning your home. Most people who own this vacuum love that you can switch off the rotating brush to clean bare floors without scratching.
However, unlike the Dyson above, the Linx doesn’t come with any attachments at all. If you don’t need attachments for cleaning your home, then the Linx is a good choice. But if you require special cleaning attachments, then you can choose the Dyson or the Black & Decker below.
Other than that, this vacuum comes with only one battery. Some people wish it came with two batteries so they can switch batteries and continue cleaning if the battery runs out mid-cleaning.
3. Dirt Devil Reach Max – Most Affordable Choice
Though the Dirt Devil Reach is cheap (in a good way), it still offers power and a decent run time. This vacuum can actually be more powerful than the more expensive Dyson V10 when at a low power setting. At the high power setting though, the V10 wins.
Other than being the cheapest choice, the Dirt Devil Reach is also a lightweight vacuum at just 6 lbs. This weight is very light compared to other cordless vacuums or uprights with the same power, making it a suitable vacuum for smaller areas, such as studio apartments.
The downside to the Dirt Devil is that it’s not powerful for deep carpet cleaning, and it doesn’t do well for cleaning crevices since it has a large dimension. The run time is around 20 minutes, less than the V10, but still long enough for cleaning areas not too large.
Shark is a reputable brand that pops up in many recommended vacuum cleaner categories. This vacuum comes with two speed settings: low setting for cleaning bare floors, and high setting for cleaning carpets.
What makes this appliance different from other cordless vacuums is that Shark recommends it for picking up pet hair. Many people who use this vacuum say it does a great job for cleaning up fur.
Similar to the Hoover Linx, the Shark Freestyle doesn’t come with any attachments either. Unlike the Linx however, the Shark has a better battery that will not damage if overcharged. If you’re looking for a cordless vacuum for cleaning pet hair, then this one is a good choice.
5. Black & Decker BDH 2020FL – Best Handheld Cordless Vacuum
The BDH 2020FL could be the best handheld cordless vacuum. Though it’s appearance is different than a “regular” cordless vacuum, we recommend this appliance for its versatile portable cleaning capabilities – which is what you want from a cordless vacuum.
This vacuum is very lightweight at only 4 lbs and has a 4 ft flexible hose that you can use to clean hard to reach spaces. It even has a pet hair cleaner attachment, making it a worthy consideration other than the Shark Freestyle above.
Of course, being a handheld vacuum means it has less power than a regular cordless stick vacuum. Other than that, the dust bin capacity is quite small, only 0.2 L. You’ll have to empty it regularly if you use it for thorough cleaning. Due to this small capacity, the Black & Decker is best used as a complementary vacuum or for cleaning small spaces.
